Breakout Session II: Running a Program
Placement Plus – Supported Employment the DMF Employment Opportunities Way
What does supported employment at its best look like? Career placements instead of part time/seasonal work, customized job descriptions and assessments, training and support for the employer and employee that never ends, monthly peer support meetings, and so much more. The de Moya Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is committed to creating employment opportunities for young adults with unique abilities by building long term partnerships with employers and providing support for the employees. The Foundation collaborates with educational institutions, not for profit organizations, families, and the business community to provide the educational, employment, and financial support for young adults with developmental disabilities to obtain and maintain jobs. The main focus is simple–to help young adults with unique abilities reach their full potential and lead them on the road to success by introducing them into a professional work environment, helping them become self-sufficient, instilling confidence and independence and teaching the importance of self-worth.
This presentation will provide a walk through of the DMF customized employment process including recruitment of employer partners and candidates, assessment and training, job development and placement and on-going support. Lileana de Moya, CEO and President/Founder and Jill Brookner, Employment Project Director will share with you how our process differs from typical supported employment models. Eligibility criteria, brochures, videos and application information will be shared. DMF Employment Opportunities is a VR provider.
